Why Vaccinate?

Why Yellow Fever Vaccination Matters

Yellow fever is a mosquito-borne viral infection found in parts of tropical Africa and South America. Vaccination can protect travellers and may also be needed as proof for entry, depending on your route and recent travel history.

Plan at Least 10 Days Ahead

A Yellow Fever certificate normally becomes valid 10 days after a first vaccination. Book early where possible, but contact us even if you are travelling sooner so we can assess your itinerary and options.

Certificate Included

Where vaccination is given, the price includes your International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis. Keep the original with your passport, as border officials may request it.

Rules Depend on Your Route

A country may recommend vaccination because of local risk, require proof because you arrived from a risk country, or apply rules after a long airport transit. We check the full journey, not only your final destination.

Flying soon?

Leaving in a hurry? It's usually not too late.

Four to six weeks ahead is ideal, but it isn't a cut-off. Many travel vaccinations still offer useful protection at short notice, and a prescriber-led consultation will prioritise what matters most for your itinerary and your departure date. We'd rather see you late than not at all.

Yellow fever certificates become valid 10 days after vaccination — worth counting back from your entry date.

The standard rabies pre-exposure course runs over roughly a month, so start it early where you can.

Open Monday to Friday until 8pm and Saturday 11am to 6pm, so you can come in around work.

Travel Clinic FAQs

Travel vaccination questions, answered

The things travellers in Milton Keynes ask us most. If your question isn't here, call us — we'd rather talk it through than have you guess.

Do I need a GP referral for travel vaccinations in Milton Keynes?

No — you can book directly with us, with no GP referral and no waiting for a surgery appointment. We're a GPhC-registered pharmacy in Bletchley, and appointments are usually available the same week, including evenings until 8pm and on Saturdays.

How much do travel vaccinations cost?

Your consultation is £25, and it's waived in full with any vaccination or medicine you receive on the day — so most travellers only pay for what they actually leave with. Individual prices are shown in the price list on this page. What you pay overall depends on which vaccinations you personally need: if you've already had one, you skip it.

Are travel vaccinations free on the NHS?

Some are and some aren't. The NHS usually covers a small number at your own GP surgery, while many others are only available privately. We'll tell you honestly if something you need may be available free on the NHS — we only recommend what your trip actually requires.

How long before travelling should I get my vaccinations?

Ideally four to six weeks before you fly, because some vaccinations need more than one dose or need time to take effect. Booking earlier also gives you room to spread a course out comfortably rather than rushing it.

I'm flying next week — is it too late to get vaccinated?

Usually not. Many vaccinations still offer useful protection at short notice, and a prescriber-led consultation will prioritise what matters most for your destination and departure date. Call us on 01908 104265 and we'll do our best to fit you in — we have evening and Saturday appointments.

Can I get all my travel vaccinations in one appointment?

Most travellers can. We hold the full private travel range on site, so you're not turned away or asked to come back because something is out of stock. A few vaccinations — rabies in particular — are a short course given over several weeks, and your pharmacist will confirm your schedule at the consultation.

Do you offer yellow fever vaccination and the certificate in Milton Keynes?

Yes — we're a designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre, so where vaccination is clinically suitable we can vaccinate you and issue your International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP) in the same visit. Only designated centres are permitted to issue the certificate, which is why most GP surgeries can't.

Do I need a rabies vaccination before travelling?

It depends on where you're going and what you'll be doing there. Rabies pre-exposure vaccination is commonly considered for longer trips, rural or remote travel, cycling, running, camping, caving, working with animals, travelling with children, and destinations where urgent treatment may be hard to reach quickly. Importantly, being vaccinated beforehand does not remove the need for urgent medical care after a bite, scratch or lick on broken skin — it simplifies the treatment you'll need.

How long does the rabies course take?

The standard pre-exposure course is three doses over roughly a month, so start at least a month before you fly where you can. If your trip is sooner than that, still come in — your prescriber will talk you through the options for your departure date.

What vaccinations do I need for Thailand?

For most travellers to Thailand, hepatitis A and typhoid are the usual starting point, alongside checking your routine UK vaccinations including tetanus are up to date. Depending on your itinerary, how long you're staying and what you'll be doing, hepatitis B, rabies and Japanese encephalitis may also be worth considering. We follow UK national travel health guidance and confirm your personal plan at the consultation.

What vaccinations do I need for India, Bali or Vietnam?

Recommendations vary by country, region, season, activities and your own health and vaccination history. Use the destination checker on this page for a starting point, then book a consultation — your pharmacist reviews your full itinerary and confirms exactly what you need, and what you can safely skip.

I don't know which vaccinations I've already had — is that a problem?

Not at all, and it's very common. Bring any records you have, along with whatever you can remember, and we'll work from there. Where there's real uncertainty your prescriber will explain the safest way forward.

Do you vaccinate children?

Yes, we vaccinate children, and junior doses are available for some vaccinations. Bring your child's red book or vaccination record along if you have it.

Do I need a meningitis ACWY vaccination for Hajj or Umrah?

Saudi Arabia requires proof of meningitis ACWY vaccination for Hajj and Umrah visas. We provide the vaccination and the documentation you'll need to carry with you.

Do you provide malaria tablets as well as vaccinations?

Yes. Malaria prevention is assessed as part of your travel health risk assessment, and antimalarials can be supplied where clinically appropriate — alongside practical advice on avoiding bites in the first place.

Where is your travel clinic and when are you open?

We're at Unit C111, Bucks Biz Centre, 1–9 Barton Road, Milton Keynes MK2 3HU, in Bletchley. We're open Monday to Friday 9am to 8pm and Saturday 11am to 6pm, and closed on Sundays.

How do I book a travel vaccination appointment?

Book online using the calendar on this page, or call us on 01908 104265 during opening hours. No GP referral is needed, and you don't have to be registered with us.
