Thailand Protection, Planned Around Your Itinerary
Thailand does not have one vaccine list that fits every traveller. A short hotel stay in Bangkok is different from a month travelling through rural northern provinces, visiting friends and relatives, volunteering, cycling or spending time around animals. Your consultation brings those details together with your health history and previous vaccinations.
NaTHNaC recommends hepatitis A for all previously unvaccinated travellers and advises travellers to be up to date with routine UK vaccinations, including tetanus protection. Depending on your plans, we may also discuss hepatitis B, Japanese encephalitis, rabies, typhoid, dengue or chikungunya vaccination, plus malaria and mosquito-bite precautions.

Why Vaccinate?
Which Vaccines Do You Need for Thailand?
NaTHNaC separates advice into protection for most travellers and vaccines considered for some travellers. Your final recommendation depends on the exact places you’ll visit, how long you’ll stay, what you’ll do and your individual health risks.
Most Travellers: Hepatitis A
Hepatitis A spreads through contaminated food and water. NaTHNaC recommends vaccination for all previously unvaccinated travellers to Thailand. Good food, water and hand hygiene remain important even after vaccination.
Routine Protection and Tetanus
Make sure routine UK vaccinations are up to date, including MMR and diphtheria-tetanus-polio. A tetanus-containing booster may be advised when medical facilities could be limited and your last dose was more than ten years ago.
Some Travellers Need More
Typhoid, hepatitis B, rabies and Japanese encephalitis may be considered for longer stays, rural travel, animal contact, visiting friends and relatives, uncertain itineraries or activities that increase exposure. We’ll explain what applies to your trip.
